THE dairy farming industry may be set to receive new junior recruits after Belgrave South Primary School took part in the fun, myth-busting Picasso Cow program.
The students took part in Dairy Australia’s national education program which saw them decorate a life-sized, fibre-glass cow as well as learn about where milk comes from, the nutritional benefits of dairy and caring for farm animals under the broad theme of Farm to the Plate.
Belgrave students spent two months decorating their cow, Big Bessy, before their final presentation with nine other schools at the Cranbourne Golf Club on 18 July.
The school’s program organiser and year one/two teacher Sarah Sussman said the children enjoyed the learning experience.
“It was the best learning experience and so much fun,” she said.
Fifteen Belgrave South students attended the Picasso Cows Presentation Day.
While they didn’t take out Dairy Australia’s $250 prize, they are happy to be keeping Big Bessy who will be displayed in the schoolyard.
