EMERALD under-13s went into the grand final having shared the top two spots on the ladder with the Wandin opposition throughout the year, but found the Wandin offensive too strong on the day.
DRJFL president John Meyers congratulated the teams saying it was a fitting end to the season to see the teams that had been first and second all season playing out the 2014 premiership cup.
“You can hold your heads up high,” he told the disappointed Bombers.
Wandin coach Glen Garner credited Emerald with fantastic opposition during the year saying they knew they were going to get a solid game of football any time they played them.
“We went undefeated, but these boys pushed us to one point during the year,” he said.
Emerald coach Trevor Tilly added his congratulations. “I’m extremely proud of my boys. We went in with a game with a game plan, but unfortunately it didn’t work out on the day,” he said acknowledging a well-deserved win to Wandin.
Josh Tilley was named best opposition player.
Final scores were Wandin 6.7 (43) to Emerald 3.5 (23).
