MOUNT EVELYN hairdresser Mikayla Paulet is the winner of the 5th annual Casey Apprentice/Trainee of the Year awards.
Held in Yering last week, Federal Casey MP Tony Smith announced that 17-year-old Mikayla, of Natural Chique Hair and Beauty was the winner of the 2014 Awards.
After working at the salon for almost two years, the 1st year appreitice said the award meant a lot to her.
“It will help with my future,” she said.
“And help show that I’m willing to help and put the effort in.”
Ms Paulet said she always wanted to be a hairdresser and started working at Natural Chique as a VCAL student and jumped at the opportunity when she was offered an apprenticeship.
Her boss Kristy said that while Mikayla was very quiet, she had maturity beyond her years and was always there to get the job done.
Joint Runner-Up Awards were also won by 17-year-old Cameron Bisschop, a 2nd year apprentice Automotive Apprentice at Rock Hard Motors in Silvan, and 26-year-old Natacha De Barba, a 3rd year apprentice chef at Tarra Warra Estate in Yarra Glen.
