WHEN Tiffany Smith entered the novice celebration cake competition at this year’s Royal Melbourne Show, she chose to celebrate her hometown of Emerald – and she won.
Tiffany, who has always loved baking but keeps it just as a hobby, created a three-tier masterpiece focussed around Puffing Billy railway.
The cake is decorated entirely with coloured fondant and Tiffany said she designed and baked it in her own kitchen all in one day.
On Friday 19 September she was excited by the announcement that she had won first prize in the division.
“I’ve entered competitions at the show for the last couple of years and I was delighted when I found out I had won this time.
“I’d never made a cake like this one and it was fun to be able to make something that celebrates Emerald.”
She also took out the first prize in the soft iced cupcakes competition and said she plans to continue to bake and decorate unique and specialised cakes.
“I’ll definitely be entering the show competition again. I loved the challenge of designing a celebration cake.”
